Note: !REFN Email from his sister Barbara O'Bryan 6/26/2014 Joe went into the army after graduating from U of L. I believe that he joined in 1952 and stayed 4 years (or maybe 2) all of that time at Ft. Knox. He was in food service school. I didn't remember that, but I called Betty and she told me. I believe he didn't want to be drafted, so he joined so he wouldn't have to be drafted. Betty said that whenever he came home, Grossmama made a special meal for him, but he said that the army food was better! I'm sure that he was joking, because I don't think that there was a better cook that Grossmama.
