Note: !REFN Obituary of John Sabel, Jr. Louisville Courier Journal [Louisville, Kentucky] June 14, 2002 John Sabel Jr., 67, of Louisville, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's inpatient unit at Norton Healthcare Pavillion. He was the retired owner of John Sabel Decorator and a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Spalding Council Knights of Columbus, a member and past commodore of the Knights of Columbus Boat Club, a life member of the American Turners and a member of the Downtown Optimist Club. He was an Eagle Scout, a retired deputy sheriff, a former driver for Funeral Auto Company and a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Schuler) Sabel; three daughters, Sharon Pike of Lawrenceburg, Ky. and Mary Ann O'Bryan and Ruth Sabel, both of Louisville; three sons, John Sabel III of Honolulu, Hi. and James A. and Joseph L. Sabel, both of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granchild. He is also survived by a brother, Louis Sabel; and two sisters, Elizabeth B. Striegel and Barbara O'Bryan. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Clara Breitenstein Sabel; his father, John Sabel; a brother, Joseph Sabel; and a sister, Sister Clara Ann Sabel, SCN.
