His father passed away just a few weeks prior to his High School graduation. Worked with his father for the New York Central RR in the Sheet Metal shops in Lock Haven, PA. from 1934-1941. While in high school his nickname was " Robb", his disposition was " Cheerful ", his favorite pastime was " Schmick's ", his strong point was " Females " and his ambition was to own an ice cream shop (1920 census for Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania ED 96, p. 1b or p. 2 on ancestry.com shows an "Elias SCHMICK" on 820 Franklin St. His occupation is : "Manufacturer of Ice Cream".
