a. Note:   Town Clerk's Office in Stoneham, Middlesex County, Mass. stated on 31 Oct 2002 they had located a birth certificate for John Edward THURSTON. States he was born 14 August 1885 in Stoneham and his parents were Wilbur Thurston and Mary Ann Thurston. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unable to locate in 1900 census. 1910 Census says John and his 1st wife Carrie were married 6 yrs; had 4 children; 4 are alive in 1910. 1910 Philadelphia City Directory shows a John E. THURSTON as a huckster. Also says his address is 2619 Gordon St (same as the census of April 1910). However, while the census and directory shows him on Gordon Street the directory shows Carrie THURSTON (his wife) living at 928 N. 13th St. They were together in April 1910 (the census says so) but not when the directory info was obtained. 1920 census shows him as "married" but living with his sister-in-law, Anna (Mervin) Stites and her family. His wife, Carrie is living in ED 920. Buried Northwoods Cemetery, Lot 3, Oak Section, Grave 108. 1930 census shows him as a "widow" (but he wasn't) living in the same apartment bldg. as his wife Mary (Hipple) Thurston). He was living in an apartment with a Roberta Ezeheit. On her (May's) son's death certificate her daughter-in-law Marie (Hipple) Thurston is the informant and list Mary Ann's maiden name as REILLY", not "BOYD". The "Butler" family book gives her maiden name as "BOYD"; hence a big dicrepancy. However, Marie (Hipple) Thurston lists her husband's father's name as "Joseph"; not Henry or Wilbur. Again, a discrepancy. But the Town Clerk's Office in Stoneham, Mass., has his birth certificate on file and lists his birth as 14 August 1885 and his parents were Wilbur Thurston and Mary Ann as the parents. My belief is "Wilbur" did indeed use "Wilbur", rather than "Henry" as his "legal" name. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THURSTON -- On Dec. 15, 1960, of 3607 N. 8th St., JOHN E., husband of Marie Hipple Thurston.
