Note: Height; 5'7" Health excellent untill he was diagnosed with Alzheimer�s. Black hair, very dark brown eyes, dark complextion. Was fairly active skiing and sailing in his later years. Was also an excellent golfer. We think John was born in Richmond or maybe Bournemouth, England. Gramma told Mum how she walked the beaches trying to make him be born on her birthday. Came to Canada on the �Empress of France� in 1926 at the age of eight. He and Joy (age 4) had never eaten salted peanuts, they spent considerable time �washing� them so they tasted �right�. That is all he recollects of the voyage. They docked in Montreal on 9 May 1926. They settled in Toronto, first in Islington area and then on John Street. He was in Italy during the war driving supply trucks, and he was also in North Africa. He never talked about the war and if you asked him questions he said� you a policeman or something!� After the war he became a salesman for Canada Liquid Air in Windsor, Ontario. John had met Phyllis before the war at a dance in Carnarvon, he starting seeing her again after the war and they married in 1949. They separated in 1957. He moved to Barrie and worked there for a few years before the entire family reunited. They bought a house in Aurora and hewas employed byr Supreme Welding and Aurora Tank and Welding. They separated permanently in 1972, but remained friendly and would occasionally go out together but they never lived in the same house again. John was diagnosed as having Alzheimer�s Disease in 1981 and had to go and live in a retirement home. By 1984 he was having great trouble recognizing people and remember facts. He was transferred from a nursing home to Sunnybrook, but by that time he did not know many people, (Mum and Mart). He died early June 17th, 1992. He was cremated and buried at Zion United Church Carnarvon, Ontario.
