a. Note:   Marie was the third gaughter of John and Lena, each being born about 13 years apart, Anna in 1893, Katherine in 1906, and Marie in 1918. Marie tells the story of the time that her mother had to go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for extended treatment of ulcers. When Lena returned, Marie was calling Anna, "Mama." Lena told Anna it was time to move on and get married! Went Pearl Harbor was bombed, she got on a train and went to Seattle where she became a "Rosie The Riveter." From her obituary: Marie M. George (1918-2003) WATERLOO-Marie M. George, 84, of Waterloo, died Saturday; Sept. 6. at the Western Home Communities. Cedar Falls. She was born Nov 1, 1918, in Brule County, near White Lake, S.D., daughter of John and Magdalena Frost Weires. She married Leon George on June 22,1945, in Jacksonville, Fla. He died in May 1997. She graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology as a licensed practical nurse and was employed with St. Francis Hospital for many years, retiring in 1987. She was a lifetime member of the Legion of Mary. Survivors include: five sons, Stephan Anthony (Cheryl) George of Phoenix, Ariz., Leon Eugene (Jeannie) George Jr. of Urbandale, Michael George of Waterloo, Patrick Timothy (Karen) George of Lakeville. Minn., and Mark Anthony (Karen) George of Visalia, Calif., a daughter, Vicki Jean (Tim) Cutsforth of Waterloo; and 13 grandchildren. Preceded in death by: two sisters, Anna Margaret and Katherine; and 11 brothers, John Michael, Nicholas Peter, Lawrence. John Henry, William Nicholas, Otto Michael, Matthew Peter, Leo, Herbert Nicholas, Clarence and Albert Otto. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilbertville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Memorials: may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
