a. Note:   Arilla Gipe appears to have had her first child out of wedlock. Little is known about the father of Mary Ellen Gipe/Ella Burns. In Ella's second and third marriage records, her father is identified as Edward Burns. Census records would suggest that he was born in Illinois. As Arilla was young and unmarried, there might be court records related to their relationship and birth of Ella. These records have yet to be searched.
  Arilla later married William PEASE and then M.F. (Fred) Harrison. There have been no records showing that Ella ever lived with Arilla, although she typically lived nearby. Arilla's children from her marriage to William PEASE are found in her home in both the 1880 and 1900 censuses.
  A descendant of Leonard PEASE states that Arilla HARRISON was committed to the Bartonville State Hospital where she died. This has yet to be proven and a death date has not yet been located.
