 Anthony and a brother contracted to build an Ohio canal. They ran out of money and returned home to farm. Anthony moved to Effingham Co., Illinois and in 1854 ourchased 400 Acres at $4.50 per acre. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1819, later to join the United Brethren Church. He became a licensed minister in 1840, ordained in 1844, Early a Democrat later a staunch Republican.
