Note: ., NE in 1897, where she was known as Bettie. She wrote the wonderful story about her parents that I have transcribed below. ELIZABETH EMELINE “Betty” or “Lizzie” SALES – b.1 Aug 1886 in Florence, Douglas Co., Nebraska; “a suburb of Omaha”... After her family moved back to Nebraska from Oregon, Elizabeth attended school with her siblings in Rock County, where, in the School Census of 1897, she was listed as “Bettie”. Elizabeth became a schoolteacher when she grew up, and wrote the wonderful story about her parents that I have transcribed below. On 10 June 1908 in Ozawkie, Kansas, she married Alfred Howard Butler (b: 21 Dec 1872 in Edinburg, Christian Co, IL, died 21 Sept. 1947 in Dinuba, Tulare,CA). They lived in Kansas, where they had two daughters: Marianne, born about 1913, and Ruth E. born February, 1917, then they moved to Bayard, Morrill County, in western Nebraska, where their son, Robert James was born on June 13th, 1919. (Robert died 23 Jan 1996 San Rafael, Marin Co., California). In 1930, Alfred was working for the railroad, and Elizabeth was a librarian in the Bayard city library. Their daughter Marianne was a schoolteacher by the time she was 18. Dad remembers meeting Aunt Lizzie when our family was visiting Grandma Nickel in Colorado in 1960. He recalls what a nice lady she was, and he said she really liked Evan and me (because then we were little and cute), and took us all out for ice cream. According to Mom, after Alfred died, Elizabeth went to live with one of her daughters in North Carolina. Elizabeth Sales Butler died in Wilmington, New Hanover, North Carolina on Jun 1978, at age 91.
