They lived from the 1850's to about 1880 in Pottawattamie co., Rockford Twp, Iowa. By 1880 they had moved to Shelby co., Grove Twp, Iowa (The next County North). Luke had 11 or 12 children. It appears that of their children were born in Iowa Leanna drowned “in a raging storm” on Saturday, MAY 30 1890 in Honey Creek, Iowa. BURIED: Branson Cemetery, Loveland , Pottawattamie Co, Iowa; sec. B TOMBSTONE: reads 62 y 6m 29d. They lived from the 1850's to about 1880 in Pottawattamie co., Rockford Twp, Iowa.. The [Thursday] 5 June 1890 Dunlap Reporter states: "Drowned Saturday Night" Mrs. Luke Sales [his 2nd wife, Sarah’s sister Leanna], formally a resident of Dunlap but now living at Honey Creek, was drowned Saturday during a raging storm. It appears from the meager report we were able to learn that she remained in her house until the water commenced surging in the rooms with such violence that she was unable to determine what to do. In her desperation she thought she would seek refuge outside and in so doing was carried away by the current. A daughter living near Dunlap, Mrs. Henry Thompson has been notified.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SEE CENSUS AND OTHER RECORDS UNDER JAMES MARTIN SALES
