A: Yes. 1947 - assault, Venice, Calif., $50.00 fine 1 year probation; suspected burglary, Knoxville, Tennessee, dismissed (no trial) From Mary F. Bevan Walker: I asked John about these. The Assault charge occurred when he and some other guys had been bowling and decided to take a street car home. John paid his fare but the other two refused to pay. The conductor tried to get them to pay and one of the guys hit him. They stopped the street car and called the police. They arrested all three and would not believe John had nothing to do with the fight. The suspected burglary happened when he and Bill Arrowood decided to go frog hunting one night. They were walking in the neighborhood with flashlights and the cops saw them and arrested them. They were cleared after spending the night in jail.
