Note: SAMUEL The judge who anointed the first two kings of Israel. Samuel was the son of Elkanah and Hannah who had long been barren. Hannah dedicated him to the Lord as a child and brought him to Eli the priest. When Samuel was a child, he heard the voice of the Lord speak to him at the shrine in Shiloh. As an adult, Samuel played an important part in uniting the tribes against the growing threat of the Philistines. Samuel anointed Saul as king of Israel, and later went to Bethlehem anoint David as Saul's successor. Samuel Couch, Hardware Store Owner Samuel G Couch, 59, of 1504 Linden Street, Cheswick, died in his home this morning (May 19, 1969) after a lingering illness. He was born March 4, 1910, to Hultz and Anna Mae Jackson Couch in Cherry Valley and lived the past 45 years in the Alle-Kiski area. Mr Couch was owner and operator of Couch Hardware Store, Cheswick, for the past 25 years. He was a member of Cheswick Presbyterian Church, Tarentum Pollock Lodge No. 502 F & AM, Pittsburgh Consistory, Syria Shrine, Pittsburgh, and New Kensington Elks Club. Survivors include his widow, Edna Palmer Couch, two daughters: Mrs Sanda Couch Chandler, Cheswick, and Mrs Donald (Linda) Grinder, Springdale: a son, Samuel Couch Jr., York: a sister, Mrs Daniel (Margaret) McCurdy, Cheswick, and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received in Alan Clowes Funeral Home, Springdale, where a service will be conducteed at 2 p. m. Wednesday by the Rev. John M. Jenkins, pastor of Cheswick Presbyterian Church.
