Continued: zip code in Gulfport 39501\tab Todd is a Welsh name. A David Todd was founder of Freeport PA 1796. Checking PA to NC to AL to MS as per an online hint. There is also a prominent S F Todd in Pennsylvania. Freeport, Westmoreland Co, is at the confluence of the Allegheny River and the Kiskiminetas River about 18 miles NE of Pittsburgh. It is also at the corner of Westmoreland, Allegheny, Armstrong, and Butler Counties; a 4-corner area. The document linking him to the Samuel Floyd Todd family is the 1930 census for Quitman, Clarke Co, MS, where he is listed as Samuel D Todd. The SSDI (Gulfport, MS) also lists him as Samuel D Todd and gives his exact date of birth and death. The difference between his birth date and the date on the 1930 census (25 Apr 1930) is 4 years, 0 months, and 17 days. The 1930 census taker like many census takers liked to put down the exact age of children in years and months; we are informed that Samuel D Todd has just had his birthday on 25 Apr 1930: he is 4 years and 0/12. The circumstantial evidence thus is very strong that this is the right person. There is no other person competing for the spot. Cemetery records or obituaries might provide the needed proof. LATER NOTE: Samuel D Todd obituary from Gulfport-Biloxi newspaper confirms that the person mentioned therein is the same as the person mentioned in the census as son of Samuel Floyd Todd. It remains to be proven that this is the inventor mentioned in the Gulfport-Biloxi newspaper as being an inventor. I have no doubt but no proof yet.
