National Archives Records, file #S6136 Samuel Snodgrass: Discharged 6 Jan 1778 at Lancaster, PA. Served a total of 8 months and 21 days. Pension applied for 20 Sep 1832 in Greene Co OH Common Pleas Court. Pension issued 10 May 1833. very likely married twice, since he was abt 38 when he m. Elizabeth Adair. 22 Nov 1792, Rockbridge Co VA, Marriage Book 1, page 32: Samuel Snodgrass married Elizabeth Adair, d/o James Adair; bond signed by Samuel Snodgrass & James Adair Jr., dated 5 Nov; by Samuel Houston, Presbyterian minister. Rockbridge Co VA, 29 May 1795, Samuel's brother Robert Snodgrass wrote his will, naming bro. Samuel & bro-in-law Samuel Moore as executors; will proved Aug 1795, Rockbridge Co VA 6 Jan 1819 Samuel Snodgrass bought his farm in Green Co OH from Andrew W. Davidson & wife Rebecca. The farm was located One mile and a quarter from Jamestown, OH, on Jamestown & Cedarville Rd. Greene Co OH, Will Bk J, page 124: [will of Samuel Snodgrass d. 6 May 1844] The State of Ohio Greene County At a term of the Court of Common Pleas of said County began and held at the Courthouse in Xenia on the tenth day of June in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty four. Now present the honorable Elijah Vance President Samuel Kyle Associate judges of said court Simeon Dunn Abner G. Luce The last Will and Testament of Samuel Snodgrass late of said County deceased, was this day brought before the Court for probate and duly proven by the Oaths of John Crawford and Vonson Ballard subscribing witnesses thereto whose examinations were reduced to writing. And it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the said Samuel Snodgrass was at the time of executing said will of sound mind and memory over twenty one years of age and not under any restraint. It is ordered that said Will and the proof so reduced to writing be recorded. And thereupon on motion of James C. Johnson and John Mahan the Executors named and appointed in said Will it is ordered that letters testamentary be granted to them; and the said James C. Johnson and John Mahan with John Crawford and Joseph Ballard their securities whom the Court accept entered into Bond in the penal sum of Two thousand dollars conditioned according to Law. The Court appoint Lyman Ballard John Davis and Isaac Taylor appraisers of the personal property of said deceased. Which said Will and probate thereof are as follows to wit: In the name of the Benevolent Father of all I Samuel Snodgrass of Greene County Ohio do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament. After my debts and funeral charges are fully paid I devise and bequeath as follows Item 1st. I give and devise unto Joseph Snodgrass and John Snodgrass two of my sons the farm on which I now reside situated in Greene County Ohio containing about one hundred acres which I have deed to the said Joseph Snodgrass and John Snodgrass before the signing and sealing of these presents, which will more fully and at large appear by reference being had to the records of Greene County in consideration of which the said Joseph Snodgrass and John Snodgrass is to pay the other Legatees one hundred dollars to each Legatee in the following order to wit: Nancy Baker formerly Nancy Snodgrass [vss - m. 1817 Daniel Baker], James Snodgrass, Samuel Snodgrass, Peggy Adair formerly Peggy Snodgrass [vss - "Peggy" Margaret m. 1828 Andrew Adair] and to the children of Robert Snodgrass deceased one hundred dollars to be equally divided between them said children or heirs of the said Robert Snodgrass dec'd [vss - Robert Snodgrass d. 1839; m. 1825 Phoebe Miller; Phoebe m2. Abraham Sheely], Elizabeth Snodgrass and to the heirs of Sarah Toleman [vss - Sarah Snodgrass m. 1828 Silas Toleman] children of her body one hundred dollars to be equally divided between said children of Sarah Toleman dec'd and Phebe Barr formerly Phebe Snodgrass [vss - Phoebe Snodgrass m. 1830 Clark Co OH John W. Barr]. I further devise that all the debts due and owing to me shall at my death be collected together with all moneys on hand shall be equally divided between the Last named parties. And I further devise that all my personal estate shall be Sold and the money collected from the proceeds of said sale shall be equally divided between all my children together with Robert Snodgrass heirs and Sarah Tolemans heirs each to draw one equal share or childs part and to be equally divided between said heirs. I do hereby nominate and appoint James C. Johnson and John Mahan Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby authorizing and empowering them to compromise, adjust, release and discharge in such manner as they may deem proper the debts and claims due me and to carry out and fully close this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form aforesaid. I do hereby revoke all former wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22nd day of April in the year of Our Lord 1842. Samuel Snodgrass Signed sealed and acknowledged by said Samuel Snodgrass as his Last Will and Testament in our presence and signed by us in his presence John Crawford, Vinson Ballard State of Ohio, Greene County Court of Common Pleas of the Term of June A.D. 1844 Personally appeared in open Court John Crawford and Vinson Ballard the subscribing witnesses to the Last Will and Testament of Samuel Snodgrass late of Greene County deceased, this day presented to the Court for probate, who being duly sworn, on their Oath depose and say that they were respectively present and saw the said Testator, Samuel Snodgrass sign and also heard him acknowledge the same to be his Last Will and Testament, that they signed the same as witnesses in his presence, at his request, and in presence of each other, and that the said Samuel Snodgrass was of full age of sound mind and memory, and under no restraint as they verily believe.
