Notes
a. Note:   There is an Eliza Wagoner, 35, living in PA in 1870 with a daughter Mary or Marg, age about 12-13, and other children. This Eliza is the wife of John Wagoner b. France, who may have died and she remarried Samuel Kerr by whom she had Estella in 1875, then Samuel died and in 1880 she is a 44 y/o widow with a 20+ daughter Maggie Wagoner and a 4 y/o daughter Estella Kerr. They are half sisters. Other children left home of died.... just speculation, of course.

  Richard,
Your mother said that Wilda Estella Kerr was working for the household of Albert C. Hitchcock before Jane P. Hitchcock died. If true, that had to be in Winfield, Kansas. I could not find Eliza Kerr in a family in the Iowa 1885 State census, but I did find a person with that name buried in Wichita.

If this is Eliza Kerr, the mother of Wilda Estella Kerr, she would be about 83 y/o at her death.
Now, if Estella came to Wichita with her mother before 1890, why did she and Albert return to Iowa to be married?? I think it is more likely that Estella did not work for Albert in Kansas, she and her mother probably remained in Iowa. When Jane died 1890 in Winfield, KS, Albert returned to Iowa, possibly to get help from his family, and could have hired Estella as a housekeeper in Iowa, and soon married her. (She was only 16 when they married.) Then they brought her mother to Wichita when they moved back to Kansas between 1900 and 1910. Ponder that for a while....

12 Feb 2005: I found a possible couple who could be Wilda Estella Kerr's parents. There was a record of Samuel D. Kerr marrying Eliza Ann Dicks in Muscatine County, Iowa, on 21 July 1856. The record was found in "Muscatine County Iowa Marriage Records 1837 - 1879", compiled by Marlin W. Brossart, 1980. Library of Congress catalog number 79-57460.
