From Iris Dillard Sanwell (formerly Samuell), Sep 2001 and Sep 2006: "Bula, Dillard's first wife, and Gussie were good friends". "Your grandma was a good ball room dancer - won awards. When my sister, Rose started her advanced education at state college, Gussie moved to Urbana. She rented out a home as a source of income. The second sister, Dale, was especially smart and did well in college too. I was the tail-end of the kids and college was not available to me." (TRH comment, 2006: Ninty year old Iris is a worldly, bright lady with interests in many intellectual subjects, but especially american history. She too would have excelled in college. Update: Iris has deceased).

Augusta (Marx) Samuel may have been named after her mother's (Rosa Jellinek Marx) sister's (Catherine Jellinek Meyer) husband, August Meyer. Uncle August was a music teacher.
