It seems as if people often named new children for relatives they were fond of. I noticed that your Pearl had a son named Vernon. My great grandfather was Marion Vernon Friday, b. 4/12/1849 in Bibb Co., AL, d. 24/11/1946 in Macon, MS at the home of his daughter Pearl Watkins. Nora Pearl Friday was born 8/16/1883 in Noxubee Co., MS and died 4/23/1975 in Noxubee Co., MS.

  My great, grandmother's name was Sarah Vernon and her sister (name unknown
 as I am writing) married a Herrin in the West Blockton, (Bibb County) AL.
 Their descendants moved to southern Illinois in the late 1920's to the
 West Frankfort, Franklin County area. I can provide more detail if you
 are interested.

  I am looking for a family in Bibb co. Henry and Margrette McElroy. I think her last name was Vernon. These are my Great- great Grandparents. I have a copy of a speech that was given about my great Grandmother Maude Vernon McElroy Herrin in 1946. She was married to George Erastus Herrin on April 30, 1896 at the Baptist Church in Blockton. From what this speech says Maude and her mother ran a boarding house in Blockton for the Miners. Some that are listed as living there are The Stansberry Brother, John and Earl, Tom Miller, and the Herring brothers. I have found a Henry McElroy in Bib Co. in 1860 census but nothing after that. Can any of you be of any help.
