Baptists.---The first Missionary Baptist society was organized at W. F. YOUNG's house, out on the Springfield road, by John AARON, who lived ten miles north, on Park's Creek. Seventeen members joined this association, among whom were W. F. YOUNG, W. K. BENTON, Jonathan HICKMAN, and their wives. The year given is 1843-44. About 1845 a conference of members of the Baptist society was held, when questions relating to the sacrament were discussed. The Free Will section differed materially from the Missionary section, and two-thirds of the membership had their names enrolled as Free Will Baptists, with Jonathan OWENS, JOHN SANDERS, JOHN FORREST, Sr., and old Mr. BRADSHAW, leaders. This Free Will society still exists. --History of Wright Co., MO (Goodspeed, 1889), p.405. (Note: John FORREST, b. 1811 TN, md.
