Notes
a. Note:   a, Clyde Swindler and Helen Sutnik (Swindler) were the maid of honor and best man. He was a farmer and rancher with his brother Clyde, and when the boys grew up he decided to moved to Gold Creek Montana in 1971, as he felt the need to split the partnership with his brother for his children's sake. It proved, in my estimation, not to be a prudent move. My mother reluctantly agreed, although she left all of her friends, and family. I don't think she was ever the same after that. She had been very active in her church, and ladies groups, and when we moved, she lost much of her confidence. It was hard for her. They later moved to Helena, Fort Benton, Hamilton, and then retired in Deer Lodge Montana. My father loved to hunt and fish and was a very gentle and caring person. He talked of his spirituality in the fields of North Dakota, and his love of the land. He had a great sense of humor, and toward the end of his life, the people of Deer Lodge nicknamed him "Smiley". He was known in North Dakota as "Casey". He apparently had purchased the first Case tractor in the county, and the name stuck. Most of the community only knew him with that name, so when I would tell them my father was Lawrence, they would ask if he was any relation to "Casey". He passed away after mowing his lawn....quickly...the way he would have wanted to go. He would not have made a good patient. He lived a full life, however, the last 10 years of his life were a great challenge. The IRS made his life difficult, and with the decline of farming, he lost all of his income, due to defaults on the contracts of the properties he had sold. A man once affluent, was now living on Social Security, but he made the best of it. A hunter, farmer, rancher, father, and caring husband, he was a man of his word, and he made the world a better place.
