Swindler, 82, long-time Hettinger County farmer, died Thursday morning at MedCenter One in Bismarck. The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Monday in Mott Evangelical Community Church. Interment will be made in Sunnyslope Cemetery. A memorial has been established. He was born August 26, 1907 at Montrose, S.D., to Mike and Hulda Swindler. As a boy, he came with family to farm 12 miles north of Mott. He began farming with his parents, and was married Regina Meyer on March 16, 1931 at Mott. They began farming south of Mott and later moved to Idaho for a time. In 1937 they purchased their present farm eight miles southwest of Mott and farmed until retiring in 1974. They spent many winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Evangelical Community Church, Elks, and served on various Mott community boards. He loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife of Mott; two sons, Marion F. and Ronald L. of Mott; three daughters, Bonnie Bieber and Janice Gifford of Mott and Shirley Swindler of Adak, Alaska; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Allan, Venice, Fla.; Lawrence of Deer Lodge, Mont.; Clyde of Mott and Ray of Hamilton, Mont.; two sisters Viola Grose of Diamond Spring, Calif.; and Sadie Bleick of Mott. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, one great-grandson, one sister and two brothers. Visitation is at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon and evening, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Swindler, 82, longtime Hettinger County farmer was held Monday April 30, at 10:30 a.m. from the Mott Evangelical Community Church. Rev. Arlen Lundberg officiated and Kerry Swindler, John's grandson delivered the eulogy. Special music for the service was provided by Alberta Kirsch and Rick Poehls, vocalists. Margaret Blickensderfer accompanied. Casket bearers included his grandsons: Kerry Swindler, Mark Bieber, Timothy Bieber, Brian Bieber and Shawn Lince. His granddaughters Yvonne Swindler Hughes, Jodi Gifford Olson, Marca Gifford, Desiree Swindler Poehls, Shannon Lince, Margo Swindler Hintz and Cameo Swindler served as honorary pallbearers. Interment was in the family plot at Sunnyslope Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Funeral arrangements were under the guidance of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home of Mott. John Francis Swindler was born August 26, 1907 at Montrose, S.D. to Marion F. (Mike) and Hulda Arvidson Swindler. As a small boy he accompanied his family to a farm 12 miles north of Mott. There he grew to young manhood and attended a rural school near his home. At and early age, he began farming with his father. On March 16, 1931 he was united in marriage to Regina Meyer at Mott. They lived south of Mott and for a short time resided in Idaho. In 1937 they returned to the Mott area and purchased a farm 8 miles southwest of town. There they raised their family and increased their operation, farming until retirement in 1974. They continued to live on the farm following retirement. Until last year, they spent many winter months in Arizona. He passed away at MedCenter One in Bismarck on Thursday morning, April 26 following a hospitalization of 30 days. John was a member of Evangelical Community Church, the Elks Lodge and participated on many Mott community boards. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish in many of the surrounding states, Canada, and Mexico. Grateful for having shred his life are his wife, Regina of Mott, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Marion F. and Ramona Swindler, Ronald L. and Jan Swindler all of Mott, 3 daughters and sons-in-law; Bonnie and Ray Bieber, Janice and Jack Gifford, all of Mott, Shirley Swindler and Jeff Williams of Adak, Alaska, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Allan of Venice, Fla., Lawrence of Deer Lodge, Mont., Clyde of Mott and Ray of Hamilton, Mont., 2 sisters; Mrs. Robert "Viola" Grose of Diamond Spring Cal, and Mrs. Howard "Sadie" Bleick of Mott. He was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, 1 great grandson, 1 sister and 2 brothers.
