 : When Morris first came to Tehama Co. he filed a claim on a place called Mud Springs but when their house burned down they abandoned that claim and filed on one on the plains, about a mile and a half east of edge of the woods. That homestead was proven up on and appears on the Shackleford map of 1878, official map of Tehama Co. The property remained in our family until Henry Purcell's death in 1942 when the heirs sold it. - Irma King
