Notes
a. Note:   yne twp, Champaign Co., OH. In other censuses he states he was born in NY and PA as if he wasn't sure of his birth place. Was he an orphan, or for other reasons would not know his exact birthplace?
By listing him here with other possible siblings and at least one assumed parent, then perhaps someone else will help provide more detailed information. Additions and corrections are most welcome.
Patrick Ellis' Rootsweb webpage provides much of the info on Isaac G. himself, most of which can be verified by D K Norwood's notes regarding his heir's list dated 1888. The data is further appended by successive censuses in OH and later in IA. However, Ellis believes Isaac's father was also an Isaac who married Sarah Kniver. However, Ellis says the Isaac Sr was born in NJ, although at least one census states that Isaac's father was born in Ireland, as does his grandson's biography. I've found nothing else to verify his parentage, and have wondered if he might be a son of William Wilson b. 1739 Ireland for reasons noted below.
There were four Wilsons living in Wayne, Champaign Co., in 1830 census, including Mathew and Isaac, but that list was alphabetical and doesn't note residences. In 1840 Isaac, Mathew and a David are living near each while Robert, Thomas and Samuel aren't far away.
Patrick Ellis indicates that Thomas was a brother of Isaac G., and both were sons of Isaac and Sarah Kniver Wilson of NJ, and that these sons were born in NJ. However, later censuses provide different data, indicating these men were born in either NY or PA, as if they weren't quite sure of their birth.
In the last census for Isaac G., he indicates his father was born in Ireland. The biography of his grandson, Linville, also states that his unnamed great-grandfather was born in Ireland and was in the Rev. War. The details about his g-grandfather's Rev War experiences, are almost exactly the same as provided in the obit of Margeret Wilson of her father (Wm. Wilson b. 1739 Ireland); namely, having been in Rev War prison for 18 months, having worn ankle shackles causing permanent scars, etc. However, if this Wm. was Isaac's father, then Isaac did not remain close to the family as did most of Wm's other children, and Wm's known children were born in KY. Yet Isaac is of similar age as the other children.
The Linville biography also mentions that his parents were of Dutch-Irish stock. His grandparents on the Wilson side were Irish and German (Pennsylvania "Dutch.")
Isaac is often listed as I. G. Wilson in censuses. He and his family left OH in about 1856 for Keokuk Co., IA where he settled and eventually died. His other assumed siblings remained behind in OH.
An 1874 map of Washington twp, Keokuk Co., IA shows Isaac's land as being very near Springfield, while his son S.K. is just north of him, son-in-law Ellis owns a corner of Isaac's lot, and his son Isaac B is further north near What Cheer. Others near Isaac at the time include Brokaw, King, Waddell and Swisher families. (The Swishers may also have been from OH.)
The 1860 Keokuk census for Isaac includes a female child named Mintha J. as if she were a daughter of Isaac G., but I've found no other mention of her.
Note:   Isaac's middle name is Greer or Grear. The first we know of him is in the 1830 census for Wa
