Note: Mabry Lewis Brown was born at the home of his parents near Mustang Prairie, Falls Co., Texas. He was the youngest of three children. Mabry started first grade in Mart, McLennan Co., Texas, but soon moved to Marlin. He graduated from Marlin High School in May 1954. He joined the Texas National Guard while still in high school and became Mess Sergeant. for the Marlin unit retiring in 1965. Mabry married Martha Lou Gholson on 20 August 1954 at the Gholson home in Marlin. Mabry and Martha Lou lived in Marlin until they moved to Mexia in December 1964. They moved back to Marlin in August 1965 and move to Waco in April 1967. They purchased a house at 904 West Denison in Robinson in June 1975. Mabry worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, BK Auto Supply, Mrs. Baird's Bakery, National Life Insurance Company, and Waco Spring and Brake. He bought Waco Spring and Brake with James Howell and operated it until his death. Mabry was a member of Marlin Masonic Lodge $152 AF & AM (raised to a Master Mason on 10 July 1958), Waco Masonic Lodge #92 AF & AM, Waco York Rite Bodies, Waco Scottish Rite, Waco Commandery, Karem Shrine Temple and McLennan Chapter No. 639, Order of the Eastern Star. He was past commander of Karem Legion of Honor and past patron of McLennan Chapter #639, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a deacon and member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Robinson. Mabry died of cardio pulmonary arrest on Wednesday, 13 December 1989 at Providence Health Center in Waco. He had his first heart attack on 23 August 1988. He had been a diabetic for several years. Survivors were his wife of 35 years, Martha Lou; one son, James T. Brown of Robinson; two daughter, Mrs. Dell (Cynthia) Owen and Mrs. Phil (Diane) Sanderson, both of Robinson; eight grandchildren, Aaron and Andy Schnizer, Therese and Danny Brown, Justin, Jennifer and Jessica Sanderson, and Tara Owen all of Robinson; father, Rev. Porter J. Brown of Marlin; two brothers, P. J. Brown of Marlin and Conrad W. Brown of Mart. Funeral services were at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, 15 December 1989 at Wilkerson-Hatch Funeral Home in Waco with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. An honor guard was formed at the cemetery by members of the Karem Temple Legion of Honor. Masonic Grave side services were conducted by Waco Lodge #92 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. Pallbearers were Bill Akins, Dave Cole, Ed Brem, Gary Coleman, James Wright, and Elmer Cohn. Honorary pallbearers were Don Markum, Jack Hawkins, Lloyd Anthony, Deacons of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, employees of Waco Spring & Brake Co., and members of Karem Legion of Honor. Memorials were made to Shriner's Crippled Children's' Hospital, Scottish Rite Hospital, and Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
