  He was part of the crew of H.M.C.S. Guysborough (a minesweeper), when it rescued a U.S. Navy sub-chaser (1945).
  He was on board the H.M.C.S. Guysborough for the D-Day landing.
  He was on shore in Nova Scotia studying for his Warrnt Officer exams when the Guysborough was sunk on March 17, 1945 by two torpedoes from a German U-boat while enroute between Horta and Plymouth, England. There were 51 deaths out of a ship's company of 90.
  Returned to employment at the CNR. Was pipefitter, then foreman of Pieshop. Was Supervisor of Foremen on his retirement in 1964.
