Reported in History of Wayne County, Illinois, to have moved to White Co, IL, in 1827. Listed in 1830 White Co., IL census as Jesse Pennington, age 50-60; wife, 50-60; three males under the age of 5; one male age 5-10; one female age 10-15; one female age 15-20; two females age 20-30. He disappears from any 1840 census. Wayne County history refers to them as natives of South Carolina, although, if they are indeed Matilda's parents, they were listed in the 1880 Census of Wayne County as having been born in Virginia. According to Wayne Co. history, they came from Kentucky to White Co., IL. Jesse's father may be the Joshua Pennington listed in Russell County, Virginia records (1797-1803) along with Timothy, Moses and Asa. There is even a Jesse listed. These are also listed in North Carolina and later in Kentucky, near Richard Pennington, believed to be Joshua's brother and Jesse's uncle.
