Notes
a. Note:   According to the 1870 Census, Peter and Louis Stamm have their birth place listed as Hamburg. It was assumed this was the city of Hamburg in the state of Hamburg. The Church of the Latter Day Saints do not show any Stamm's in the city of Hamburg. They do show a large family of Stamm's in the city of Homberg in the state of Hessen. The book "The German's in New Brunswick, New Jersey" by Carl H. Gramm lists a Peter A. Stamm who had a grist mill on Ryder's Lane. It shows he was from Hesse. Hesse is the English word for Hessen. Of the Stamm's in Homberg, only 2 are of the proper age to be the parent of the Stamm brothers who came to the USA from Frankfurt in 1856. One has children the same age as the Stamm brothers and the other is Johann Henrich Stamm born in 1807. ** Frankfurt is the largest city in the German state of Hesse.
