Note: Jennie May Overmyer MATTOON -- Jennie May Overmyer, 101, OF Mattoon, Illinois, formerly of Neoga, and Urbana, Illinois, passed away at 2:20 P.M., Monday October 10, 2005, in the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home of Mattoon, Illinois. Jennie was born April 16, 1904, in Neoga, Illinois, the daughter of George Wm. and Carrie E. (Odle) Scoles. She married Grant Overmyer August 3, 1929, in Charleston, Illinois, and Mr. Overmyer passed away January 28, 1970. Mrs. Overmyer was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge, both of Neoga, Illinois, and a member of the Pythian Sisters of Urbana, Illinois. She enjoyed working in her garden and doing a lot of canning with her children. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors. Mrs. Overmyer was a housewife and a retired seamstress from the Kern Manufacturing Company of Neoga. She leaves five sons, Henry H. Overmyer of Neoga, Illinois; Amos D. Overmyer of Mattoon, Illinois; M. Raymond Overmyer of Urbana, Illinois; Paul L. Overmyer of Santiago, Chile and George E. Metzger of Mattoon, Illinois; five daughters, Lenora Swanner of Burlington, Iowa, Hazel Warner and husband Richard of Mt. Zion, Illinois, Lois Jean Cline of Mattoon, Illinois, Betty Cowger of Mattoon, Illinois, and Judith Sue Wilkey and husband Bill of Charleston, Illinois; a special friend, Norma Pearcy of Charleston, Illinois; thirty-seven grandchildren, seventy great grand children and thirty-nine great great grandchildren. Mrs. Overmyer was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grant Overmyer; two brothers, Wesley and Henry Scoles. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Fund. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Sunday, October 16, 2005, in the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with the Rev. Richard Coen and the Rev. Darin Hansen, officiating. Friends and relatives may call from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery near Neoga, Illinois.
