Apprenticed in carpentry to his father, Frank Vreeland, architect and builder. Traveled to California in 1916 with the circus. Employed in Venice, California maintaining the wooden roller coaster. Brought to Hal Roach Studios in Culver City by his brother, Frank, for 2 days work. Was hired permanently as a carpenter in 1919. Worked as a Grip in early independent films including Laurel and Hardy features in the 1930s. Became head of the Grip Department of Hal Roach Studios, 1938-1941, 1946-1948. Became Studio Superintendent in 1949 until 1955 when he became Studio Chief (CEO) until Hal Roach Studios was closed in 1962. He was co-producer and director of several motion picture and television films. Worked with Quinn Martin Productions as Coordinator on "The Fugitive" and "The FBI Story". Retired in 1968. Was a member of the Motion Picture Academy. Died in 1978.
