Notes
a. Note:   [Brderbund WFT Vol. 20, Ed. 1, Tree #1800, Date of Import: Jan 1, 1999] In 1743, Pheobe lived in Dinwiddie Co. near Petersburg, VA with her first husband William Jones and their son John. At the beginning of the Revolution and after marrying Richard Curtis, she lived in South Carolina near the mouth of Black River on the Pedee River about 60 miles from Florida. In 1780, she with her husband, children and several other members of the Courtney and Curtis families made a perilous journey down the Holston River to Cole's Creek above Natchez, Mississippi where they organized Salem Baptist Church. An interesting and detailed account can be found in "A Popular History of Baptists in Mississippi".
