Notes
a. Note:   Emanuel appears in the 1810 Amite Co., Census with a wife, Patsey Curtis. He appears in the 1820 Catahoula Parish Census listed as between the ages of 26 and 45 while Patsey is listed as 26 or less. There is one son under the age of 10 who is 15 or less by the next census. There is another adult male in the household between 26 and 45 but further research is necessary to determine who that was. Manuel Skinner appears in the 1830 St. Landry Parish census. He is at least 40 so he was born before 1790. Patsey is listed between 30 and 40 and a second son less than 5 is added to the family. The Skinner family are close neighbors to James Curtis b. 1784, son of William, and two of his boys, James Stampley Curtis and William Curtis. These two boys married daughters of John McCollister and Nancy Nettles. John lives near by as well as his father-in-law Isham Nettles. James Curtis, Sr. names one of his children Isham Curtis but I don't believe the child survives based on the 1830 census which shows no male children fitting the correct age in the household. Several Cole's live in the area, James Sr., the son of Solomon Cole. His son, James Cole Jr., who married Sarah Simmons. Her father James Simmons is also a neighbor. Sarah also married Isham Nettles, Jr., the son of Isham Nettles. William Cole, James R. Cole and Jacob L. Cole also live nearby but further research will be necessary to sort them out. I found no record for Emanuel Skinner in either Texas, Ms., or La. for 1840. I see where several of his neighbors later go to Sabine Parish so this might be a lead.
