 MOURNING FAMILY HISTORY
From the Book by William Mourning Waddell a tribute to "My
Sister" written in a beautiful hand probably that of Judge John
 D. Mourning which reads as follows: Jane Long nee Mourning was
born in Adair COunty Kentucky November 1 1813 and was converted
at a Camp Meeting near Carmel and joined the Chruch 53 years
 ago-was married to H.H. Long March 23 1834 and died June 25 1884.
She passed through many hard trials and endured great afflictions
having buried her husband and four children besides one son who
fell at Chicamauga. When kindred ties and all earthly comforts
were gone she lived by faith in God and endured as seeing him who
is invisible. Her patience and resignation under so many adverse
circumstances wee borne with Christian fortitude that I have
seldom seen equalled never excelled. The last time she visited
me I asked her to tell me her experiences. After an account of
her convicrion and conversion which was in the old Camp Meeting
language and style she said with tears of joy "I have to congess
that I have been unfaithful but I would no now give the hopes and
prospects I have of heaven for the whole world. Truly her
Christian walks and conversation is an example for the old as
well as the young. May her five remaining children and their
loved one meet her in heaven.
The book the Mourning Lineage states Janes husband is Samuel Long
