Notes
a. Note:   1910 Federal Census for Philadelphia, Phila. Co., PA - 1517 Spring Garden - SD 1, ED 212, Sheet 4B 1920 Federal Census for Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois - 1420 Barry Ave. - SD1, ED 1342, Sheet 10A 1930 Federal Census for Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois - 4449 Sunnyside Ave., ED 16-2809, SD 3, Sheet 12B Stanley was born the youngest of 3 children. His parents were quite well off; attending elementary school in England and eventually graduating from St. Boniface College in St. John's. In 1909, Stanley emigrated to the United States to Philadelphia. There, he lived with his older brother, Michael, for a short time. I estimate that Stanley moved westward to Chicago about 1911 where he gained his US citizenship. He is listed in the 1910 census in Philadelphia. Meeting Clara Bisdorf at a wedding of a mutual acquaintance, Stanley and Clara married in 1912 at St. Alphonsus Church in Chicago. They had 2 children, Stanley Jr. in 1918 and Mary Ellen in 1926. He lived in the Chicago area for the rest of his life. Stanley worked for the Erie Railroad as a billing clerk and retired in 1957. After Clara's death, Stanley lived with his daughter until his death in 1976. Stanley was an avid reader and loved American Civil War history, belonged to the Civil War Roundtable and visited numerous battlefields around the country. He also liked Napoleonic history and traveled to Europe to visit battlefields and historical places there too. Always a Democrat, he admired FDR and was a supporter of the Union movement in America. I remember my grandfather as an intelligent, educated and refined gentleman who lived his life for his family and enjoyed sharing his love of history and support of the "common man".
