In 1900, Roy (3) is found in Albuquerque, NM at 917 S. Arno Street with his father, John Robert (49), a car repairer, mother, Susan Emma (39), a housewife, and siblings Robert (16), Curtis (15), Joseph (13), Orie (11), Mary (9), Bertha Lou (8), and John James (6). The family migrated west between 1897 and 1901. Roy's mother died of cholera in 1901. Like his brothers, Roy received his education from the Jesuits. He registered for the 1917-1918 WWI Draft in Bernallio Co., New Mexico. By 1920, Roy (24) returned to Parsons, Labette Co., Kansas where he is shown as a machinist with the railroad. In the 1920 census he is listed as a roomer in the home of John A. and Eliza Lowell. On September 1, 1928 Roy married Helen Thomure of Missouri. Although not verified, I suspect the marriage took place in Parsons at St. Patrick's Church. Not long after their marriage they moved, and in 1930 Roy (33) and Helen (32) are found living at 808 Park Avenue in Palestine, Anderson Co., Texas with their 3 month old daughter, Helen. There is also a woman named, Ella Jones (38), living at the house as a servant. Roy is shown as a mechanical engineer with the railroad. Roy is credited with developing locamotive brake systems and worked for the railroad for his entire life. Between 1930 and 1940, Roy and Helen added 3 more children, Roy Francis, Jr. (1932), Florence Mary (1936), and Regina Marie (1939). Eventually, the family moved east and settled in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., New York. In May 1981, Roy, now 84, passed away in Schenectady after a long and successful life. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Social Security Death Index Name: ROY ABELL SSN: 703-16-6415 Last Residence: 12309 Schenectady, Schenectady, NY Born: 19 Dec 1896 Last Benefit: Died: May 1981 State (Year) SSN issued: RR (Before 195)
