Note: 1900 Federal Census for Albuquerque, Bernallio Co., New Mexico - 917 S. Arno St., Precinct 26, SD 170, ED 18, Sheet 14 1910 Federal Census for Jerome, Yavapai Co., Arizona - ED 20, SD X, Sheet 5A 1920 Federal Census for White Pine Co., Nevada - Vol. 4, E.D. 59, Sheet 1, Line 77 1930 Federal Census for Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois - ED K2378, SD 8, Sheet 2A, Line 33 ____________________________________________________________________________________ Known as "Curt", William Curtis Abell was born on July 4, 1885 in South Mound, Neosho Co., Kansas to John Robert and Susan Emma (Beaven) Abell. He was baptised on July 15, 1885 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, Labette Co., Kansas by Father A. Hayden. Catherine Gatton was his Godmother. In 1900, Curtis (15) is found in Albuquerque, NM at 917 S. Arno Street with his father, John Robert (49), a car repairer, mother, Susan Emma (39), a housewife, and siblings Robert (16), Joseph (13), Orie (11), Mary (9), Bertha Lou (8) John James (6), and Roy (3). The family migrated west between 1897 and 1901. Curtis' mother died of cholera in 190 On April 27, 1909 Curt married Mary Cecilia Grealy, daughter of Thomas and Maggie (McMullen) Grealy, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons by Father N. Neusins. George Grealy and Margaret Carman stood up for the wedding. Soon after, they moved to Jerome, Yavapai Co., Arizona where Edith Marie was born in 1910. From Arizona, Curtis and Mary moved to White Pine Co., Nevada. Curt registered for the 1917-1918 WWI draft in White Pine Co., Nevada, but did not serve in the army. Curt also registered an automobile in White Pine County. In 1920, the family is living at 21 Avenue B, McGill, White Pine Co., Nevada. Enumerated are Curt (36) a copper smither, Mary (35) a housewife, and Edith (10). William Thomas was born about 1922 in Kansas, therefore, the family moved to Kansas about 1921. In 1930, the family is split up and no longer together in Kansas. Curt is living in Chicago at the Morriss Hotel on Clark and Madison, while Mary (45), Edith (20) and William (8) are living in Parsons with Mary's father, Thomas. The division of the family may have been due to the depression and Curt no longer finding work, or possibly, Mary's father, Thomas (73), needed assistance and Mary could not leave Kansas to be with Curt in Chicago. It is sure that Curt came to Chicago alone where his older brother, Robert, lived. From this point I lose track of Curt. His death date of June 23, 1958 is given by his brother, Father Orie Abell S.J., who was an Abell family historian. Paul K. Abell, Curt's nephew, says that the family eventually moved east, possibly Pennsylvania.
