Notes
a. Note:   1810 Federal Census for Springfield, Washington Co., Kentucky - Page 350 It is said that, hearing of Robert's unexpected death in Maryland, her grief was sincere; she never lifted up her head afterwards; she took off her shoes and stockings, never to resume them again; and she donned a coarse cotton gown and lived thenceforth the life of a penitent. Christened at St. Andrew's Parish, Leonardtown, St. Mary's Co., Maryland The tombstone at St. Thomas Cemetery is in very good condition. The date says January 1818 but no specific day. Judging from the condition of the stone in comparison with others of the same age, I believe the stone may have been placed there well after her death. The tombstone reads: Margaret Abell, died Jany 1818, at the age of 59 years, This dedication is inscribed by her children. Father James Walton, S. J., of the Jesuit mission at St. Inigoes, Newtown, St. Mary's County, record her name as Margarita Miles in the record of her marriage to Robert Abell. Michael A. Thomas, Thomas Family History. Margarita is the Latin form of Margaret. The Jesuits used Latin for official church documents.
