Emigrating from Ireland in 1853, the family settled in St. Louis, Missouri. To date, the first official US record of Edward is his marriage on September 6, 1870 in St. Louis to Margaret Elizabeth Isaacs, daughter of Solomon and Louisa (Gresham) Isaacs. A short history of the relationship and marriage appears below: From a sworn "AFFIDAVIT" of William O'Connell and Mary O'Connell, his wife, dated January 6, 1904, concerning the claim of Margaret Fitzgerald, et al, on the pension of her father, Solomon Isaacs. The Affidavit was taken in Hannibal, Marion Co., Missouri. "We are personally acquainted with Edward Fitzgerald and Maggie Fitzgerald, his wife, who now live in Parsons, Kansas. Maggie was employed by our sister (Mary O'Connell's sister) in St. Louis, Missouri during 1869 and 1870; she was single and not married. We first met Maggie and Edward at my sister's house in St. Louis, Missouri during year 1869 or 1870; both were single and unmarried and were, during year 1870, married at my sister's home in St. Louis and came to Hannibal, Missouri where their oldest son, John, was born and where we met them and knew them continuously as man and wife, for about 3 years, when they left Hannibal to go to Parsons, Kansas where they have sinced lived". Witnessed by J. W. Plowman and E. A. James. (The National Archives Cert. #573223, Pension files of Solomon Isaacs) As stated above, the family moved from Missouri to Kansas about 1877. In 1880, we find the family, Edward (38?), Margaret (28), John (7), and Ellen (4) in Parsons. The age for Edward is surely wrong. Edward is a moulder and Margaret, a housewife. Young John is suffering from malarial fever. In 1900, the family is living at 802 N. Central in Parsons. Edward (51), a cupelo tender, Margaret (46), Mary (19), Edward (16) and Anna (10) are all listed. John and Ellen are now married and living on their own. In 1906 Margaret passed away and in 1910, Edward is found living with his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Edward Bonebrake. On November 7, 1916, Edward died in Parsons from bronchial pneumonia. A record of his death is held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. He is buried next to his wife, Margaret, and their son, Edward, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery on north 32nd Street in Parsons. As with Margaret, there are some discrepancies in his birthdate. His death certificate states 13 April 1851, the 1900 Census states May 1849, and the gravestone states 1850. The church record at St. Patrick's says Edward was 67 at the time of his death, this makes his birth year 1849. From family history, it was said that Edward came from Ireland when he was 4 years old.
