The name Andreas Betz was originated from a log when the Betz family disembarked from the Ship Philadelphia 1732 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gorg, Georg, George. He is found in Philadelphia under all the names including Betz and Batz. Andreas Batz I changed the family name to Potts for good around 1771. This is also the approximate date he enter the Revolutionary War. Andrew Potts appears on the List of Capt Jacob Sarer's Company of the Washington County, Maryland Militia. Card Number 37440450 Andreas Batz I must have moved back and forth from Pennsylvania to Maryland as most of his children were born in Maryland, except two (Susanna Batz born in York(city), York county, Pennsylvania, But also his son Joseph Potts Sr., according to the census of Indiana.)
