a. Note:   Abel worked and retired from the Reading Railroad. He started out in Gordon, PA and then moved with his family to Williamsport, PA and raised his family. Their first home was located on Linn St. in the Newberry section of Williamsport. Their second home was on King St. Abel, after retirement, worked as a custodian for the Lutheran Church. He was an avid walker, never owned a car. He was well known by the citizens of Newberry. He also enjoyed a good cigar and was a baseball fan of the Williamsport Tigers. He enjoyed Little League baseball which was invented in Williamsport only about a mile from where Abel's home was located in 1939. Abel also liked gardening. He had a lot of success in growing flowers as well as vegetables. Abel was a member of St Matthews Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Veteran Employees Association of the Reading Co. and of the Susquehanna Lodge, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He also was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Birthday and Christening established from the Keller Family Bible, plus the 1880/1900/1910 US Census records. Also documented in the Zion's German Evangelical Lutheran Church Records, located in Ashland, PA. His first name was Emil but that was changed to Abel at an early age. His Godparents were Emil Guender and Justina Bushpics. Death data obtained from Obituary in the "The Grit", Williamsport, PA- Mar 13,1961.
