a. Note:   Thomas Jefferson Munday, Junior, was born in New York City and raised there. He had two sisters, Mary and Susan. While he was an infant his dad left the family and young Tom along with his mom and sister Susan went live with their Grandpa's [Edward Pothier] family in Brooklyn. He married his first wife Annie Irene Gorman . They had a son Francis[Frank] and two daughters, Irene and Annie. Tom was employed as car driver. This was a trolley type car that was powered by horses pulling them. He then went on to join the New York City Police department starting as a roundsman and eventually obtaining the rank of Lieutenant. (permanent Lt. Mar 18 1880 on police force). Tom was straight no nonsense person and truly devoted to his family and job. His wife Annie died in the summer of 1886. His children ranged in age of 6 to 9 years old. Tom met a young German girl, Elizabeth [Lizzy] Heil and married her in 1887. They preceeded to have two girls and three sons. Tom made sure the family was close knit team. They went church and attended many functions together as a family. Tom always was in touch with his mother Mary and his two sisters, Susie and Mary. His record with the police department was impressive. While with the police he worked under the Commisioner Teddy Roosevelt, who later would become President of the United States. While Teddy was the President, he invited several of the NYC Police department members to visit him at Oyster Bay, LI, NY to have their picture taken with him. Tom was one of the honored police invited. This was in October 1902. In November 1907 Tom was asked to go to the Jamestown Ter-Centennial Exposition which was held in Norfolk, VA, to provide protection for President Roosevelt during the opening ceromonies. Tom was a member of Christian Police Association [CPA]. He also was a member and attained the office of President of the Black Rabbits Association in NYC. He retired from the Police Department after 32 years on the force in 1912. During his retirement he love to go to the NY Giants baseball games played at the Polo Grounds in Washington Heights in NYC. He also enjoyed the newly introduced automobiles and would frequently drive out on Long Island to Garden City area. He died in 1922. Tom kept a diary from 1894 -1912, that kept a daily detail of both his work day and his family activies.
