Oldest of three children, she helped raise her sister Anna and brother Frank. After the death of her mother, she helped rear a second brood when her father re-married.Edward,May,Robert,Harold and Helen came in rapid succession.Later Irene worked for one of New York's better publishing houses. She was active in her church, was courted by one of the Pillsbury family but chose Harry Cox.They were married in 1898,lived on 180th St.Bronx, 119th St.Harlem,1066 Dawson St.Bronx and 1234 Prospect Ave.Bronx, thence to Bloomfield,NJ to provide open spaces for the children.Edith had come along in 1904 and Harry Jr. in 1907.Both Irene and Harry Sr were active in the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield.Irene served as Sunday School Superintendant(Junior Dept)and Harry Sr. as church clerk. The children were exposed weekly to church and Sunday School. While the boys later strayed a bit,the early training stuck. Irene kept the home child centered and worked mighty hard to keep three kids neatly attired and surrounded by the "right" friends. She was outgoing, cheerful at all times, loved people, her family so much, her church and her God.She had to be satisfied with a job beautifully done before leaving us at age 84.
