Note: At some point, Johannes Criqui changed his surname to Griggy - after his immigration to Ohio, according to family lore. There is a John Griggy, Sr. who voted in Suffield Twp, in 1851 along with an Antony Griggy.[Rothermeljun2002.FTW] From Mike Schwitzgebel web site : http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mschwitz/index.htm Johannes Criqui/Griggy Johannes CRIQUI was born in 1791 in Strassburg, Alsace, France. He died on 19 APR 1855 in Suffield, Portage, Ohio, USA, and was buried in Randolph, Portage, Ohio, USA. At some point Johannes changed his surname to GRIGGY--after his immigration to Ohio, according to family lore. Johannes married Katharyna (maiden name is unknown), also born in Alsace, France, and they had the following children: Anthony (Criqui) Griggy Birth: 7 Feb 1819 in Strassburg, Alsace, France Marriage: 25 Feb 1851 Death: 17 Oct 1898 in Randolph, Portage, Ohio, USA Spouse: Mary Scholastica (Charlotte) Farnbach George Griggy Birth: 21 Mar 1821 in Strassburg, Alsace, France Marriage: 15 Jun 1848 Death: 29 Jun 1906 in , Portage, Ohio, USA Spouse: Mary A. Knapp Clarissa Griggy Birth: abt 1823 in Strassburg, Alsace, France Marriage: 13 Apr 1846 in , Portage, Ohio, USA Death: 1884 Spouse: Peter Bohn Michael (Creque) Griggy Birth: 28 Jul 1825 in Strassburg, Alsace, France Marriage: 31 Mar 1856 Death: 9 Sep 1912 in , Portage, Ohio, USA Spouse: Rosina Buehrle Catherine Griggy Birth: 30 Sep 1827 in , Alsace, France Marriage: 25 Feb 1851 Death: 21 Nov 1884 Spouse: Anthony Farnbach John Griggy Birth: 1828 in , Alsace, France Marriage: 28 Nov 1854 Death: 16 Nov 1907 in Rootstown, Portage, Ohio, USA Spouse: Therese (Huth) Hoot Barbara Griggy Birth: 5 Dec 1831 in , Alsace, France Death: 15 Apr 1876 in , Portage, Ohio, USA Spouse: Anthony Schroeder There is circumstantial evidence which suggests that Johannes CRIQUI/GRIGGY and his family may be related to Ferdinand CREQUE and his descendants. The similarity of the names and the vicinity in which they lived (Suffield Township) is suggestive of this. I have also found a couple census enumerations of families in Johannes' line which show one child born in Maryland, where all the others were born in Ohio. My thought is that these may have been cousins, but I have found no further evidence connecting Johannes and his line to Maryland.
