Note: McCurtain County Journal, September 21, 1982 Ervin W. Summer, 76, of Valliant passed away Wednesday, September 15, at his home. Born October 11, 1905 in Clarkville, Texas, he had lived in Valliant his entire life. Summers was a maintenance worker at Weyerhouser for 28 years, a member of the Woodmen of the World and Vallian Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Sallie, of the home, two foster sons, Tommie Bowers of the home and Harvey Bowers Summers of Modesto, California; one brother, Darrell Summers of Gladewater, Texas; three grandsons and two great granddaughters. Funeral services were held 1:30 P.M. Sunday in the Vallian Assembly of God Church with Dr. T.C. Burkett officiating. Arrangements and burial in the Vallian cemetery were under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel. Harvey Summers was born Harvey Bowers but assumed the Summers name.
