Note: ., TX and listed his occupation as merchant. --The Ballinger Banner-Leader, Saturday, February 2, 1901, Vol. XIX #17 Our esteemed fellow-townsman, Jno. W. DALE, received a telegram last monday morning bearing the sad news of the death of his father at Branford, Fla, Sunday the 27th. The store of EOFF & DALE will be closed all day Monday. --In the 1910 Runnels Co, TX Census, Dale listed his occupation as merchant, employed in a grocery store. His brother-in-law, Henry Bright was living with them and listed his occupation as bookkeeper--grocery store. --The Abilene Reporter News, Sunday, April 30, 1916, Vol. XX #41, Front Page: J.W. DALE DIES April 29, J.W. Dale, Mayor of Winters died at his home in this city at 8:20 p.m. today. The deceased leaves a wife and one son. He was about 35 years of age, and was one of the most highly respected citizens of the town. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon. --Abilene Reporter News, Monday, May 1, 1916. Vol XX #43 ATTENDED DALE FUNERAL Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Sewell were at Winters Sunday to attend the funeral of J.W. Dale, Mayor and prominent citizen of Winters, who died there Saturday. Mayor Dale was a member of the board of trustees of Abilene Christian College and was held in high esteem in Abilene. Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Russell, J.S. Arledge, H.E. Speck, Vinson and Walter Sikes, Vernon McCasland, and Oliver Dobbs also attended from Abilene. President Sewell assisted in conducting the funeral services. --Probate records indicate that Dale held two-thirds interest in the Farmers Mercantile Company, in the town of Winters, TX. Probate records also show that he owned approximately 693 acres in Runnels Co., as well as 14 lots and one-half interest in an additional eight lots and five blocks in the Dale & Bright Addition to the town of Winters, TX. His wife, Carrie Mabel Dale was "Administratrix" of the estate. Probate records also show that he owed $600 on a pledge to Abilene Christian College. This was paid from his estate. --Dale Street, the main street of Winters, was probably named for John W. Dale, as was the nearby Dale Community where he donated land for a school.
