a. Continued:   In the 1910 Census for Jones Cty., TX Lucy was living with her oldest son William M. Hope, his son Charlie and wife Ruth. She stated that she had 9 children and 6 were still living. In the 1920 Census for Runnels Cty., TX she was still living wtht her oldest son William M. Hope and next door to grandson Charlie Hope and his family. The following legends about Lucy have been passed down by relatives: She sprinkled sand on the kitchen floor to absorb spills and grease, then replaced it with clean sand as needed. Her daughter Elizabeth loved to whistle while growing up. Lucy indicated it wasn't proper for girls to whistle, saying: "A whistling girl and a crowing hen never come to any good end."
