Notes
a. Note:   Clinton Shatzer quotes Deb Mayes as follows: "Samuel Humbard (or Humberd) was born circa 1739 in Speers Ferry, Goochland County, Virginia, the son of John Humber and Elizabeth "Betty" Meeks. He died 1805 in Greene County, Tennessee;. He married circa 1756,supposedly in the German Reformed Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Sarah Painter, daughter of Jonathan and Hannah Braddock Painter,circa1756. The Painters were Quakers, and members of the Hopewell Monthly Meeting. The Hopewell Monthly Meeting was definitely a Quaker institution, and Quakers did not typically marry in German Reformed churches. Neither did they typically marry outside the faith without repercussions." "Samuel Humber served in the Colonial Wars in the company of Marquis Calmus/Calmess in 1758 from Frederick Co., Va., along with John Painter, Sr., Robert Painter, Thomas Branson & others (--from "Virginia Colonial Soldiers," by Lloyd D. Bockstruck,pp. 346, 349, 353). 2 Sept. 1755 - Court Martialed in Frederick County, Va., for missing 3 private musters and 1 general muster, for which he was fined 40shillings." 1777/82 - Moved from Frederick Co., Va. to Green Co.,Tennessee. 12 Nov. 1779 - Entered a land grant in Greene County, Tennessee. 1782 - Built a cabin in Greene County, Tenn., with his son Aden. 27 Oct. 1788 - The land grant was endorsed. 26 Dec. 1791 - The land grant was issued. 11 Jul. 1804 - Deeded the original land grant to son Aden."
