Notes
a. Continued:   Michael Collier Bright served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War, enlisting in Company H, 64th North Carolina Infantry, in the spring of 1862 in Greene County, Tennessee. He participated in the siege of Cumberland Gap in August of 1863 . Bright was taken prisoner and remained in custody at Chicago until June 1865, when he was furnished transportation back to his home. After the Civil War, Bright married Hiley G. Stonecypher. In 1875 the family left Tennessee and went out the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon. They homesteaded in the Corvallis area and tried farming. The climate proved too damp; after some years they tried California, but finding the gold rush atmosphere unsuitable for raising children, the family moved to Content, Runnels County, Texas in November 1882. The family eventually established a homestead and a successful farming operation in Content. Bright was elected county commissioner in November 1886 and re-elected in November 1888.
