Note: s active as a tanner and manufacturer of leather goods. During the war he was engaged in the business of supplying the Confederate army with boots and saddles of his own manufacture, and he continued in the work for a good many years, enjoying a fair measuare of success until the increasing facilities of the larger establishments crowded him out of the running, after which he turned his attention to farming and stock raising in Texas. He had come to this state as early as 1840 and settled in Cherokee County, being one of the earliest pioneers of that section. He was a prominent man in that county for yars, and was the warm personal friend of Major Maples of that section, famed for his participation in the military activities of the Texas and Mexico war periods.
