a. Note:   In the 1850 Census for Izard Cty., AR he is living at home with his parents. In the 1860 Census for Izard Cty., AR he and Lucy had been married within the year and his sisters Nancy (15) and Mary (17) are living with them. He enlisted in the 27th AR Infantry, CSA on 6 Jul 1862, but was in the hospital at Batesville, AR on 31 Aug 1862, and died of disease ("the fever") 10 Dec 1862 at Ft. Smith, AR. Ida Belle Stephens told her children that Jefferson Bryant Hope and John D. Dale were best friends.
