Continued: Bonnie was an unusually self-reliant and independent woman for the first half of the 20th century, and without the glass ceiling of those times, she could have gone far. She supported herself as a radio announcer and later on as an executive secretary. She also became a licensed real estate broker. Bonnie grew up in poverty, but largely through her own efforts, acquired an excellent liberal arts education. She developed an extensive collection of fine books, art, and music. Although she preferred her own company, her intellectual interests were broad, and she was able to carry on an intelligent conversation on almost any topic. Her few friends were intellectuals. Bonnie taught herself French and Spanish. She was also a connoisseur of fine foods and wines, and a gourmet cook.
