Notes
a. Note:   When Paul was alive and just prior to his departure to the States, the French Revolution began. There was wide spread looting and killings going on everywhere. Paul left the port of LeHarve, France the morning of October 14, 1848 and arrived in New York January 1, 1849 on the ship John- Cockrell according to the records I received from Mrs. Chat, a Genealogist from France who received it from the port of LeHarve ships archives. The captain was Maugendre. The reason why it was a long time in transit was because they stopped in Liverpool, England and several other ports of call before the trans-Atlantic voyage. Paul died when he was 37 years old. He was splitting wood and the axe slipped and slashed his leg open and as a result gangrene set in and he died shortly after that leaving 5 children for Barbara to raise. Barbara then married August Lauer who was a few years her Jr. and he lived just down the road from her. They had 3 children between them. It is not known for certain when Pauls birthdate was. Charles Amann has it one day and year but his tombstone has it another day and year. Charles Amman says that the church records says in 1825 but the tombstone says he was born in 1826. James K. Polk was president of the U.S.A. at the time of his arrival. Why Paul came to Allen County, Pleasant Township is not clear. There are 3 theories as to why; 1) His mothers Brother, Michael Fabing lived there and married Gertrude Waggoner. He was also a witness to Paul's and Barbara's Marriage. 2) A George Kinder was living in Pleasant Township according to some land records. George may have been Georges Henri Kinder Paul's oldest brother who came to the states a few years before Paul. 3) Paul and his brothers and sisters may have known the Harkenriders from a place just across the Rhine river in Germany from Lorraine. Remember, Paul's sister married Wilhelm Harkenrider. Sheldon (now known as Yoder) was predominantly German. Jacob Mayer was the first priest of St. Aloysius Cathoilc Church and he was related through the Christmans who lived in the same general area as our ancestors and Nicholas Kinder married Mollie Christman. Jacob is also buried at St. Aloysius and on his tombstone it shows he was the first priest there. In the 1850 Federal Census coming from Ancestry.com, There is a Barbara Andre registered in Berks, Pennsylvania. She is 16 years old, which makes her the right age of our Barbara Andre. However, Another registered Barbara is 76 years old at the same time and the same place. I believe that it is possible that the 7 was a misprint and should be a 1. But that is my own opinion.
